Letters to Myself: Entry Fifty-Three
Prompt: What is the nicest thing that has happened to you recently?
A reflection looking at the transition of the seasons from spring to summer; how this time of shifting weather patterns is the nicest thing I could have received in the current moment.
Reflecting back on what has been nice in my life, or what has happened that was deemed nice, would be the weather shift that has happened here in Minnesota, at least recently. Now that we are entering the summer season in full swing, we just experienced some beautiful days of 80 degrees and the sun shining exceptionally down on all of us; soaking in the outside nature that we were missing the last six months; especially after the winter we had here in Minnesota. When something like this happens, I believe it’s necessary to speak gratitude in the air; showing that thankfulness of the nice nature that comes a select few days for us here in the state.
It has given me a chance to see more of the beauty in the world, instead of seeing the negative side. The world right now is in a strange place; a place where ever advancement is happening before we have a chance to blink. We are not accepting and appreciating the nice things that are happening around us; much like the weather or potentially a chance to rekindle a relationship with an old friend. Potentially, something that is nice that could happen to you is you experience the elation of day-to-day living; that one can find the thankful nature in things like the birds, the plants you seeded, someone sends a nice and thoughtful message to you, or better yet, maybe you send that message to a friend going through a tough time. Or you can find the beauty in your job or work that you are in currently; that the people there can give you some motivation to keep trying; to keep showing up each day with the similar efforts you had before because those are the nice things that your peers notice.
When something nice happens to you, you must examine with some grace and attention; at least in the eyes of myself I claim since I would to take in and appreciate the glory that is this nice moment or thing or event. It humbles you to remember these details of the virtues people are giving you; that they are giving others. Potentially, you could see a nice moment happen to someone else and you could take in that moment as a nice moment for yourself since that is the magic of the world; that we can witness more virtuous moments when we are paying attention to those around us, and not always thinking about ourselves.
Because when the moment does come to you, you will know and register that this is a moment for you to experience; to experience the good nature that is being placed before you. Recently, I have been going on more walks at work, and one because its nice out during the day and during my lunch hour so it gives me a chance to examine the day-to-day operations of the businesses and people around me in the neighborhood. I think this is a nice thing too because it reminds you that the world is still operating even when you are at your current position. That time continues to tick off one second after another; knowing that the world still keeps going and we grow and age. That these businesses and people are a once in a lifetime moment in history.
Much like I referenced earlier, but the virtues are happening in these realms; and watching from afar gives me the motivation to keep going; knowing that others are trying and working hard to get by and continue to forge a path worth giving to those around them. It is this that should give one the motivation to keep trying; to see the human effort from others gives you a chance to look inward at yourself and realize that you can push to be better every single day. Which is something we should always be striving for; just getting better as a person and in areas you want to improve in; that each day you are making progress and it is good to reflect on that growing success because that is what is giving you the motivation to power through the day.
The nice thing that happened to me recently was that the warm weather opened up the new door to a new season that is once in our lives; this summer will give me more clarity on things on where I am wanting to go and the things I want to accomplish, and I believe that it is good to remember that this short time we have of the summer days in Minnesota, that it is good to cherish the weather while we have it. I write this on a day where I spent most of it outside and enjoying the hot sun; sweating so intense that I forgot how hot it actually was today. And it felt so exhaustingly great that I did not even care that I was so tired, it was the best kind of day that we yearn in the darkness of the cold winter season.
Nice things are always happening and I think the transition of the season, especially this year for that matter, that it is finally here. And the richness of the weather allows us to open our windows, sit outside all day long, go for walks and or runs in the places where it was covered in snow not too long ago; that there is nothing more you need in this world than being outside in the nature. This weather and season allows us to experience the greatness of this state in a short time. Where the birds are always singing and the breeze gives you the chill that comforts the extreme humid sun beams during these summer months.
So yeah, in turn, I would say yes, the nicest thing that has happened to me is simply: it finally warmed up and I can be out in the nature, the way it was intended to be.
This post is part of my "Letters to Myself" series — a weekly free-write blog where I explore personal growth, curiosity, and healing through simple prompts. Sometimes reflective, sometimes fun, but always real. Thank you for being here.
