Letters to Myself: Entry Sixty-Two

Prompt: What would it cost me to close the gap between my thoughts, words, and actions — and what would it cost me not to?

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
— attributed to Mahatma Gandhi

A reflection based on finding the true happiness or “harmony” of the life one has always wanted to have. That life will have tough decisions, and sometimes those difficult decisions help lead us on a path where we are supposed to go naturally.

Closing the gap between thoughts, words, and actions can be a daunting task for anyone who is trying to achieve that level of mastery in whatever they are in. This quote represents the sublime feeling that all of us carry throughout our lives. And truly, I think the sublime feeling of complete unison with nature and yourself and the soul might be one of the most deeply rooted aspects of the human condition; that all of us can access the true unison of this feeling; the complete harmony of life as this quote suggests. There might be things when one is making changes to their life to achieve this unison feeling, and one of those things or aspects so to speak would be changing or dismantling the beliefs you are still carrying that are blocking that harmony.

Sometimes when we are trying to achieve the person we have always wanted to be, you have to make sacrifices to parts of yourself that might make one feel uncomfortable at first, but eventually, you find out that this was the right decision all along; to close the gaps in your life that are no longer suiting you anymore. And adaptation does become apparent when one is trying to make those changes; when one adapts to those changes, and sees the progress and mastery that comes from these changes, you almost become intoxicated with the feelings of harmony; part of that is beautiful, but one must remember not to get too carried away. Fully realizing your potential comes at a cost; realizing who you are as a human being comes at a cost; no one is going to treat you the same after you make these changes, and that points out the judgments from their bias perspectives.

Just because you have this deep feeling inside of you, means you cannot ignore it; especially if it continues to come up in conversations, come up in your thoughts, come up in your behavior; there is something deeply rooted in each human, and once you find that awareness of whatever it is, continue to make the changes you have to make to feel that harmony with your soul and life. Ignoring the beauty that lives inside oneself is something you don’t want to reject; in fact thats what makes each one of us unique in its own right. And what an amazing feeling to have when you talk with others; when you talk with family; when you feel the thoughts and ideas that are so deeply connected with you; that you are experiencing the world with this freeing nature and uncontrolled by anyone else; that you are completely filled with happiness each step you take knowing that you are welcoming and never rejecting the world of wonderments around you.

One song I think about when it comes to this reflection or thought, is from Sister Hazel called Change Your Mind. We all have that capability. We all have the complete control over that mindset and changes you see fit. If one is tired of going through the life that they are living, start to make those changes so you can live in harmony with it. That one does not have to follow social norms if they don’t want to; that they can find peace and freedom in the people they surround themselves with; with the music, movies, shows, art they surround themselves with; peace comes at a cost, but in a strange way, the cost might be worth the trade.

Speaking on experience here, the changes I have made over the last year and a half have truly made me a better person; wanting to take the steps to become the person I wanted to become. And some of the cost came with losing certain persons in my life. Was I happy about this? Absolutely not. I still think about these people; I still wonder where they are at, how they are doing, wishing them well and love from afar; but much like I have discussed in past posts, life is meant to be challenge heavy; it is never going to be easy to lose people you thought were friends and close family members. But sometimes, disagreements, the ways of life you want to live, changes in proximity; all of which might contribute to the changes you are looking for, will make you realize that these people are living their own lives too. And that is where you have the power over yourself to say, I don’t suit this situation well anymore; the changes I have to make are going to be difficult, and I will lose loved ones in the process, but if you feel more like yourself after you make those changes, it was well-worth the commitment to yourself and your happiness.

Truly, that is simple harmony, and harmony does not have to be anything more and or less; in fact that is where the sweet spot is. Remember to not impact people harshly; it may impact them negatively or even a bittersweet nature, but never once defend or treat them in a negative way. If they come after you, respond with kindness and respect; because these people will make sure to look at you in ways that are filled with hatred and despair; wondering why you have made the changes in your life; why you decided to go another direction. The fact of the matter is that they don’t need to know; that decision is for you and you only. That is what makes this concept of harmony a true version of happiness and peace that you are looking for. The changes one can make in an instant are what make living a fulfilling life worthwhile; to achieve the things you have always wanted to do; to accomplish the goals you have laid out in front of you. Goals, people, friends and family, your job, your art, your travels, the lifestyles, the morals you fight for; all of us have these goals inside of us; write it down and see what you have to do in order to achieve it.

Don’t do these things for money; don’t do these things because you are selfish; it may seem selfish, but it is not. You are doing it for your soul; you are doing it for the people who deserve you in their lives because they are looking for the person inside of you as well. The whole of the world deserves the person that is inside of you, not the one that is a lie and a farce. We only live so long to not achieve that level of harmony; and what is possible is that you can achieve that today. One can achieve by starting that first step today. The mind and body are free from the chains that are often placed on ourselves through vices, poor habits and not taking that first step. But the unique part of this life, even warriors and POW’s have suggested, that one can always take that step when they are ready to; that the freedom from the slavery of these vices and habits can be broken in a matter of seconds. Break the chains, live the life that you have always wanted to live; become the person you always wanted to be; close the gaps from language to behavior to the people you surround yourself around. Feel the harmony; once you feel it, you will never want to let go of it.

Main thought: Close the gaps in life that are no longer suiting you; the people who are bringing you down, the negative habits one is continuously doing, to the things they believe in. Find the peace in those closing of doors, another door will open to a path that suits the life one has always wanted to have.
